About Us

Dutch Fire Safety Experts (DFSE) was founded by three fire safety professionals from the Netherlands who have spent their careers on the operational side of fire and emergency response: Johan Tuitert, a Chief Officer with over 40 years of experience in fire services and incident management; Henk-Jan Ruiter, a fire safety advisor and researcher with hands-on experience in training and incident management; and Nana Benewaa Scholten, who leads our international strategic partnerships and ensures our work is genuinely rooted in the realities of the communities we serve.

We didn't start this company from behind a desk. We started it after decades of standing in front of fires, in front of trainees, and in front of communities asking the same question: how do we make sure fewer people have to face what we've seen? That question took us to Ghana, where we saw markets full of life, commerce and density, but also full of risks that don't always get the attention they deserve: lithium-ion batteries charged overnight in tight spaces, fire loads stacked higher than anyone realises, escape routes that exist on paper but not in practice. We didn't arrive with a fixed playbook. We arrived to listen first, to understand the local context, and then to bring what we know.

That's the foundation DFSE is built on: technical fire safety expertise, paired with the humility to know that the people who live and work in a place understand it better than we ever will from the outside.
