PROJECTEN.
Two careers. One front line. Decades of fires fought, lessons learned, and knowledge worth passing on.
Behind DFSE are the people who've actually done the work, not from behind a desk, but from inside the smoke. Together, Johan and Henk-Jan bring the rare combination of hard-earned operational experience and the research and training skills to turn that experience into something that lasts.

Johan
Tuitert
Chief Officer & Dutch Fire Service Expert
With over 40 years in fire services and incident management, Johan is the founder and has spent his career on the front line of repressive firefighting, the operational, hands-on work of confronting fires directly and managing the incidents that come with them.
That experience is matched by an equally deep commitment to training: across four decades, Johan has built and shared the kind of practical knowledge that only comes from having lived through hundreds of real incidents.
At 64, he brings a rare combination of operational seniority and teaching ability, and a clear motivation: to make sure the lessons learned through a lifetime of fighting fires aren't lost, but passed on to the next generation of firefighters and trainers, wherever in the world they're needed.

Henk-Jan
Ruiter
Fire Safety Advisor & Dutch Fire Service Expert
Henk-Jan, 38, is a fire safety advisor and researcher with a strong focus on training and incident management.
He combines analytical, research-driven thinking with practical operational insight, translating complex fire safety knowledge, from incident patterns to emerging risks, into training and advisory work that fire services and organisations can put into practice.
His approach is grounded in evidence and sharpened by direct involvement in the field, making him a connecting force between research, training design and real-world fire safety improvement.
